  • aperture » The diameter of the lens opening. See F-stop.
  • av mode » Aperture priority is a camera setting that allows the user to chose an aperture while the camera selects a shutter speed to match.
  • depth of field (DOF) » The distance for which objects are in focus. Determined by aperture size. Smaller aperture (higher F-stop) results in great DOF.
  • exposure » The total amount of light allowed to fall on the sensor during the taking of a photograph.
  • fill flash » The use of flash to fill in light where it is deficient.
  • f-stop » Refers to the degree that the aperture is opened. The smaller the F-stop, the larger the aperture.
  • iso » With digital cameras the ISO setting refers to the light sensitivity of the image sensors. The image sensor becomes more sensitive to light with increased ISO values. Thus, higher ISO settings are ideal for dark scenes with the caveat being that images will become noisy.
  • shutter speed » The time that the shutter is open while a photograph is being taken.
  • tv mode » Shutter priority ensures proper exposure by keeping the shutter speed fixed to a specific duration and adjusting the aperture in changing light levels.
  • vignetting » Reduction in image brightness in the image periphery compared to the image center.
