On June 23, 2007, Erica and I took a 1-hour trip to a miniature Dachshund breeder in Eastern Ohio to look at puppies. We were first shown all of the adults and then we were shown two litters of palm-sized puppies. Then we were shown some older puppies. Ultimately, we decided to get an older puppy since they were partially trained and would be easier for us to take care of. We were in decision over two long haired males; Derek, a black/tan 6-month old, and Taylor, a red 5-month old. We were split in our decision: I wanted Taylor and Erica wanted Derek. In the end we chose Derek because he was accustomed to being by himself in his "place," which was important since we both work all day.
